This week we’re keeping Monday Magick light and airy with an entry from Jazz/Funk vibraphonist Roy Ayers and his legendary fusion group Roy Ayers Ubiquity. The tune in question is an old favorite of mine, the title track from the band’s 1975 Polydor Records LP ‘Mystic Voyage’.
In keeping with the “magickal” theme of this series, the title “Mystic Voyage” conjures all manner of super or supranatural flights of fancy. While the song, a lushly orchestrated, but still funky as hell, instrumental, lacks any lyrical references to the esoteric, the music itself is dramatic enough to spark the imagination in an appropriately enchanting fashion.
‘Mystic Voyage’ is just one of a bevy of classic albums Roy and his accompanying musicians released over the years. Their catalog comes highly recommended.
Music is magick!
