I haven’t found myself getting excited about a lot of music lately. But “Cookie Chips”, the new single from Irish emcee Rejjie Snow featuring the inimitable MF DOOM and Cam O’bi, is too good to ignore.

Somehow the super mellow but unquestionably Summery beat manages to capture the style of soulful Lofi beats the kids apparently study and relax to these day and the crate dug aesthetic of DOOM’s classic production. Snow spits playful and nostalgia imbued raps using a flow that belies his Dublin origins while the syrupy sweet sung, sorta Frank Ocean-y, hook from O’bi might make you question whether DOOM is even gonna be on this song. Then DOOM slides in sounding refreshed, renewed, and surprisingly at home on the sun-drenched sonic landscape of the previous couple of minutes and somehow manages to drop rhymes that remain on topic.

The Agnès Varda inspired video clip from directors Machine Operated only add to the whimsical vibe of the proceedings.

Quiet as kept this might be my song of the Summer this year.
