John Blake ‘The Budos (Blake Style)’

Emcee John Blake and musician Chris Renné, two of the guys behind Jailbeat Productions' amazing “The Blakes Have Got New Faces” remix of Vampire Weekend's “Blake's Got a New Face” from a few years back are doin' it again!

This time Blake and Renné took tracks from Brooklyn retro-Funk orchestra The Budos Band's 2009 self-titled EP, remixed/rearranged them and laid a bunch of blustery, braggadocios raps over top on ‘The Budos (Blake Style).

Mexicans With Guns ‘Remixican’

If you didn't get enough or Ernest Gonzales, a.k.a. Mexicans With Guns, from his “Dame Lo” video or “Me Gusto” EP you should download the 14-track ‘Remixican’ LP.

‘Remixican’ collects a whole buttload of the many, many remixes Mexicans With Guns has done for the likes of CYNE, Bassnectar, Faunts, Rainbow Arabia and many, many more.

Batsauce ‘Summer Time’

The folks over at Modern Shark are paying you back for giving them your hard-earned $2 for that Iller Than Theirs digital 7'' the other day with more totally free music!

This freebie comes from Floridian/German beatmaker Batsauce, who crafted a bunch of tracks out of samples of different versions of “Summertime” from ‘Porgy and Bess’ and gave them to the likes of The Perceptionists, Baje One, Paten Locke and others.

‘Summer Time’ is the The Smile Rays producer's first project for Modern Shark, for whom he's also working on a forthcoming free EP project with the label's founder Baje One.

Black Spade ‘Build & Destroy’

We haven't heard from St. Louis-bred emcee, singer and producer Black Spade since his 2008 debut ‘To Serve With Love. He still hasn't served up the official follow-up to that outstanding breakout release. But he has given us something to hold us over until he does in the form of an 18-track “mixtalbum” titled ‘Build & Destroy.

Whether album or mixtape it's good to hear new material from Spade, a.k.a. Stoney Rock, who builds the beats on the mostly self-produced set around familiar samples from the likes of Ramsey Lewis, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles among others. Guests and guest-producers include Onra, Coultrain, J*Davey and Miguel Atwood Ferguson.

Iller Than Theirs “The Goodest Look!!!” 7''

Brooklyn emcees Kray and Tone Tank, otherwise known as Iller Than Theirs, are back, with support from fellow Nuk Fammer Scott Thorough, with a double dose of late-‘80s-inspired fastrap!

The two-track single, available as a “digital 7’'” from Modern Shark, boasts the scenester-smashing “The Goodest Look!!!” on one side and the fashion-rapper-bashing “Sneaker Kids” on the other.

You should buy it, because these dudes have already given you a ton of free music, and it only costs a measly $2 to download it from either iTunes of the Amazon MP3 download stores!

Composer and performer Antony Hegarty, lead-singer of Antony and the Johnsons, is a very pretty boy with a very pretty voice.

I love him.

I also love his new single and video “Thank You for Your Love.”

The “Thank You for Your Love” EP is out August 23rd and 24th in the UK and US on Rough Trade and Secretly Canadian respectively.

It's also on Antony's forthcoming fourth LP ‘Swanlights.

‘Swanlights’ is due in October.

You‘ve heard music from San Antonio-based beatmaker Mexicans With Guns on Imageyenation a few times before. And now that I’ve found a version of the video for his new track “Dame Lo” that's not hosted by some blog in their proprietary player you can see his music too!

The track is a sexy-but-sinister murderer that‘ll crush both trunks and dancefloors alike with its heavy load of low end. The video is one of the most striking clips I’ve seen recently thanks to its mixture of streetwise seduction, shamanic diabolism and graphic violence.

“Dame Lo” is the b-side to the “Me Gusto” 12'' which is out now on Innovative Leisure Records.

What happens when songwriter and producer Gonzales makes a movie and brings his friends—like Peaches, Tiga and Boys Noize—along for the ride? Well, this...

The song is called “I am Europe,” and it's from Gonzales's forthcoming album ‘Ivory Tower, which is also the soundtrack to the film of the same name.

My tastes may change from time to time, but sexy singing Swedish chicks will always have a place on Imageyantion. Thus comes Birgit Bidder and her self-released debut single and video “Parking Lot Paradise.”

The tune, which feels sort-of like Amy Winehouse riffing on Stevie Nicks, is from her debut LP ‘The Life Home.’ The single is out tomorrow, and the album is due later this year, both on Kirsten Records.

Proving that everything they do gon' be funky, Dave 1 and P-Thugg of Montreal-based Electro-Funk duo Chromeo just dropped “Don't Turn the Lights On,” the first single from their forthcoming third LP!

The song is super synthtastic and so sexual, but the video is weird and sort-of creepy with its collection of disembodied eyes and mouths floating in darkness and even strutting down the street.

The new album, titled ‘Business Casual, is due out September 24th on the Vice Records label.

Brighton, Massachusetts-based Cotter Records—home to last year's Superstar Quamallah LP and a limited edition 45 from Imageyenation favorite Nedelle a few years back—presents San Francisco, California-bred emcee Biko's “Sunday (A Song for Cannon).”

The smooth, izznyce-produced, soul-sampling piece of poetic Pan-African philosophizing is available now, with an additional izznyce instrumental track gracing the b-side on limited-edition 45RPM 7'' vinyl from select retailers on Cotter Records.
