I’m not the biggest fan of Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert or his music. Despite that fact I have watched some of his videos and thought “Huh, this kid is kind of a weirdo” and then wondered why his music wasn’t as weird as his visuals and persona seemed to be?
Then I heard the song “XO Tour Llif3” which not only kind of slaps, but had lyrics that seemed to vaguely reference mental instability, nihilisim, and suicidal ideation. If you’ve ever seen those memes where someone is hungrily devouring something with a caption reading something like “Me with that __________ shit” that’s pretty much me with that mental illness/suicide shit so I was into it.
Since then I’ve heard about allegations (from YouTube of course) that Vert may be a “Satanist”, that he’s “sold his soul to the Devil”, or that he’s an “Illuminati puppet”. A friend also clued me in that the name Lil Uzi Vert may not be some tough guy reference to firearms like I’d always thought but a play on the name “Lucifer”. And, well, you already know me and that occult/devil shit.
Somehow I missed when he dropped the officialy video, which features some weird, decidedly dark, and maybe a little spooky imagery, a while back. There’s demonic contact lens eyes, apocalyptic lightning flashes, and more than a little blood. If there’s any way to get me to listen to your Trap/Mumble Rap making a video like this is it!
“XO Tour Llif3” is from Lil Uzi Vert’s debut full length album ‘Love is Rage 2’ which is out now on Atlantic Records.
