I post a lot of horror-inspired videos but the clip for Chicano Batman’s “Freedom is Free” is horrific in a whole different way. In seeming opposition to the upbeat, almost deceptively care-free, vibe of the song, the video depicts the LA-based foursome undergoing the torture of “enhanced interrogation methods” as they mouth the words to the song.
It’s a dark visual for one of my favorite songs of the last year. I spaced on sharing the video when it dropped back in September but the son has been popping up in my workplace shuffle a lot more lately and the recent uptick in ICE raids makes the video all the more relevant.
“Freedom is Free” is the title track from Chicano Batman’s outstanding third full length album which is out now on ATO Records.
